What happened to the US A-ko action figure?

This was one of the first serious attempts to merchandise A-ko in the west. This figurine which was to be produced by Antartic Press, was completely designed in America, and was to be fully poseable. Originally intended to be released in April 99, the date slipped back to late 99. Currently nothing can be found on the figure, and the Antarctic Press web site makes no mention of it, or any other figurines they once carried. The picture on the right appeared in "Wizard Magazine" Number 88. Click the picture for a larger image.

Here's some more info from anime collector extraordinaire, Tim:

Sadly it seems very likely that AP's action figure line is well and truly defunct for the time being. But their comic book line is booming these days and they're branching out a lot, so who knows...? There may still be hope for the future.

But you wanna know what? We have a better hope, quite possibly.

Anyone know Todd McFarlane? Creator of Spawn, and super-rich baseball collector. He runs a company that manufactures action figures. More specifically, they've produced several anime figures, amongst them Vash the Stampede, several Akira toys, and Tenchi Muyo!'s Ryoko. These toys should be available in any toystore -- they're even easy to come by in Australia! And they ain't perfect, but they're pretty freakin' good.

So trust me -- if you're hoping for anime-related action figures right now, this is the place to look. McFarlane Toys.
