Captain Napolipolita

The captain is a tragic figure. The only truly defining factor in her life is alcohol. When the the infant Fourth Princess of the Fifth Queen of the Lepton Kingdom of Alpha Cygni disappeared with her entire Egota-Class cruiser on a deep-space mission, many ships were sent to look for her. One of these ships was commanded by the then-noble Captain Napolipolita, who dreamt of returning home in glory with the princess to receive the Pilot's Star, an Alpha Cygnan military decoration.

Somewhere along the line, over sixteen years however, the spark left the Captains life and the valiant search turned into a long and dreary goose-chase. In despair she turned to alcohol for comfort. In time her comfort became her controller, and she was totally addicted to the wine. Without the drink she would get nervous and jumpy and was prone to shaking and shooting pain. Of course this did not have a positive effect on her command ability or her self-esteem. Her job became to her a sentence. If not for the undying loyalty and enthusiasm of Spy D, the Captain would have no doubt taken her crew down with her, and the ship would have wandered the stars forever.

Of course this all changed once the princess was discovered. In the shock realisation that she had actually found the princess, Captain Napolipolita foolishly charged toward planet Earth in her rush to "rescue" the princess. This frightened the primitive and nervous human inhabitants of the planet, provoking a hostile response. The battle which followed was entirely one-sided, and resulted in a crushing defeat for the humans. Buoyed by the victory, the ship ploughed on to the city where D had located the princess, and sent out a scout ship to retrieve her.

Unfortunately, it was here that everything finally fell apart. It seemed that the princess had no memory of her origins, did not want to return home, and actually feared her own people! Even worse, she had made powerful friends who were determined to keep her from returning home. When these friends got onto the ship, the Captain sent D to take care of them, but she failed and they ended up on the bridge.

All of this was too much for the poor Captain, and after having run out of booze that morning, she had a nervous breakdown. In her desperation to eliminate the unwanted intruders and rescue her princess, Napolipolita accidentally damaged the fine control mechanisms of the ship, causing it to plummet out of the sky and crash on top of the city, stranding its captain and crew.

Since then the captain spiralled downwards in despair and self-pity. She managed to fight back twice, and tried to adapt to life on Earth. But both times her princesses friends destroyed her dream, and by the end she had given up completely. D found her one day lying in an alleyway after having been thrown out of a seedy hotel. When the fleet from home finally turned up, Captain Napolipolita couldn't resist celebrating and missed her trip home by insisting on "one for the road".

Never anywhere else could you find a better example of how excessive alcohol can ruin a life. Such a pitty!
