For those new to haiku but wanting to contribute, could someone explain the "rules" of haiku, or post a link to a site which explains it? Good rep from me to the first person to do this!

Haiku is a form of Japanese poetry that has five syllables in the first and third line and seven in the second. Haiku therefore tend to be short, although I have seen long stories made up of several Haiku. Some authors will fudge a syllable or two, which is still Haiku, but I don't let myself do that.
First, five syllables And then, seven syllables Last, five syllables

Interesting! Is that the only form of Haiku? I recall a poem that Tenchi's grandfather wrote in the first OAV: Honoured guests Though you be friends Please be more humble When asking for seconds This one has one more sylable in each line than the last. Is this a haiku? Or does this have a different name? Personally I loved that poem in Tenchi. It so perfectly fit the situation in the series, and seemed to have the right humility, dignity and respect that Grandpa always showed. And it was in English! I wonder if the original Japanese poem was as good. One of the best example of dubbing that I can think of

Hmm... I know some haiku can be 3 - 5 - 3, but 3 - 4 - 5 - 6? I know 5 - 7 - 5 is the most famous... I remeber that poem as well and attributed it to an editing/translating problem. Numerous Google searches have not availed me regarding a full definition.

War. Fear. Ignorance. We Americans must ask: "What would C-Ko do?"
She would demand peace. A princess does not argue But crying might work.
(not my best work, but I like haiku :p )

Inspired by the Mari vs D thread, I got to thinking about what different characters might produce if asked to produce a haiku. Here are my five results.
C-Ko: Butterflies blooming, Happy rainbows and friends, um, What was the question?
Ayumi: Japanese woman Seeks stable, romantic man. Please write to me at- (ran out of syllables, sorry)
Agent D: C-Ko my princess Only Glimpses do I see Then pavement I eat.
Mari: I strike for my boss. The spy's head explodes like a Blossoming flower.
A-Ko: Again I am late? Could I take a shortcut through This six-foot wide tree?
