Pepsi can missles
During the space assult on the alien cruiser, one Earth Interceptor flies in close to the spaceship. The pilot says something to the effect of "Look at the size of the thing." Then you see him let loose with a barrage of missiles. Two of those missiles are actually Pepsi cans. These can be seen by a very keen eye, but a VCR or DVD with frame advance will make them much easier to spot.
This joke was based on a similar gag which had been slipped into the then recently released Macross movie. Project A-ko's Mecha Designer Shoichi Masuo (who was the key animator for this segment) wanted to out-do the Macross scene, which had been animated by one of Masuo's "rivals".
